Addiction is a medical disorder which consumes a person’s life and causes unwanted and many times damaging consequences to the addict as well as those who love the addict. At Turning Point Counseling, we know how difficult it is to stop acting out in an addictive behavior. All of our counselors have either worked in inpatient or outpatient facilities dedicated to the treatment of addictive behaviors or are in recovery from their own addictive processes.
Drug & Alcohol Counseling in your time of need
Our counseling for substance use disorders supports the addict’s sobriety and helps assess their need for a greater level of care if necessary. Recovering from a substance use problem requires support and counseling especially during the early stages. At Turning Point Counseling we design a program that fits the schedule, strengths, and struggles of each client we see.
We realize that people are addicted to many behaviors along with or independent of alcohol and drugs. One of the areas that we specialize in is sexual addiction. Over the past few decades internet pornography has fueled this addiction and has become one of the chief addictive behaviors that both men and women struggle to control. We have Certified Sex Addiction Therapists on staff that work with clients individually and in group settings. We also conduct three day sexual addiction intensives designed to help jump start sexual recovery.
At Turning Point Counseling, we understand that families of addicts suffer in many ways. We counseling family members individually and as a family unit so that the pain caused by their loved one’s addiction is resolved and so that the family can heal.

Frequently Asked Questions
How can addiction counseling help me?
Although there is no “cure” for addiction, you will discover many benefits of addiction counseling through working in a safe environment to eliminate the destructive habits and thoughts that are keeping you stuck in the addictive cycle. Whatever your addiction may be, we understand that it may feel overwhelming even impossible at times, however, there is hope and there is a path to healing and no one has to walk alone. Your therapist will help you discover the necessary tools to help you lead a sober life, assist you in identifying and addressing the underlying issues as well as an individualized relapse prevention plan.
Why do people go to addiction counseling and how do I know it is right for me?
Most people enter into addiction counseling because their life has become unmanageable, and oftentimes it has been suggested to them by a peer or loved one. Individuals may also experience external consequences such as loss of a job, relationship distress and even legal problems. Typically, when someone is struggling with addiction, they feel that they are no longer in control of their own life, that the addiction has all of the control. Feelings of low self-esteem, fear, anxiety, and an overall sense of hopelessness are common feelings associated with addiction.
What is addiction counseling like?
Addiction counseling takes on different approaches and styles based on the denial of the addiction, the nature of the addiction, the severity of the addiction, the factors driving the addictive behavior, and the addicts ability to stop the addictive behavior in outpatient therapy. Our therapists specialize in sexual addiction, porn addiction, eating disorders, alcohol addiction (alcoholism), drug addiction, video game addiction just to name a few. Motivational interviewing may be used to encourage individuals to find internal sources of motivation to quit as well as identify and overcome fear that may be present. Our goal is to help you identify and change self-defeating or self-sabotaging behaviors, prevent future relapses, help you create healthy long-lasting relationships and find a sober and safe community.
Is there a cure for addiction?
The truth is, alcoholism and other addictions are considered chronic, rather than acute diseases that may be held in remission indefinitely, but not completely cured. Careful vigilance is necessary to remain aware of your vulnerabilities as well as environmental cues that could set you up for relapse. Being in true recovery may look like recovery from other chronic diseases which have no cure. Consider someone who may have diabetes. Although severity and symptoms of diabetes can be managed through diet, exercise, and medication, there is no medical cure for it. Often, failure to maintain a healthy lifestyle may increase the health risk for individuals with diabetes. The same concept may be applied to addiction. It may sound discouraging to hear that there is no “cure” for addiction, however, there is hope and there is healing that may come from working with a counselor while being actively involved in a program of recovery.
